Exam period is upon us! Rejoice! I kicked off my exams knowing I had one Tuesday the 4th of May, the day after Bank Holiday Monday. To sum up the days before said exam:
Thursday: Do presentation, finish OS report
Friday: Finish OS report in the morning, chill out in the afternoon, go see Pantera tribute in the night.
Saturday: Know I should be revising, but eventually do nothing... and update to the new version of Ubuntu.
Sunday: I know I should be revising again, but largely get nothing done.
Monday: Wake-up early and head up to uni to do some group revision with some friends in their flat.
Tuesday: Do exam.
In the end, we actually did manage to get some revision done as a group on Monday, although perhaps not as much as we would've hoped. Getting home in the evening... I procrastinated more. Eventually carried on revising, staying up until 4am watching TNA Impact and WWE Raw live. Tip: At 2am, when you're supposed to be revising for an exam tomorrow, its best not to dick around trying to get 2 monitors set up. Ended up knocking the power cable out of the PC :@. Anyway, I still hadn't done enough revision and had a splitting headache so called it a day at 4am.
Tuesday rolls around and I get up early to do some more last minute revision... and I procrastinate more. For a bit at least. Eventually do all that I can, suppressing a burgeoning headache in the meantime, before having to leave for the exam at 14.00.
The exam itself though, I must say, was pretty good. One question was exactly the same a sample question except with "Robbie The Robot" instead of "Bender the Robot". Yeah. I was a little worried at one point though as I'd done one and a half questions (of 3) in about an hour and 5 minutes of a three hour exam, and finished both questions by about an hour and a half. Took a little longer on question three as I was less confident about it, but I'd all but finished by 2 hours, and remained in the exam room a little longer in case anything else popped into my head. It didn't. Oh well.
Then instead of revising for the toughest exam on Friday, I procrastinated, looking at pictures of Cardiff on Flickr. Yeah. And it's now nearly 11pm on Wednesday night... and I still haven't revised and I'm writing this blog instead. Eep.

The Return from Easter, pt 2.
And now for the second and final week back from Easter before exams!
Only actually had to go in for lectures on Monday this week, with Tuesday, Thursday and Friday being a write off. But this still meant I had to prepare and perform a presentation regarding my final year project at 11.30 on Thursday and still hand in an assignment regarding microkernels for Friday.
So, Monday wasn't too bad, just a bit boring once uni had finished. Tuesday was pretty lame though, being stuck inside rather bored as the sun was beaming, mocking me.
Wednesday though, ugh. Very shit day. Somehow, as soon as I woke up, I couldn't hear. It was strange, it sounded like I had been swimming and had water in my ear. It hurt hearing this that were quite low, except for some reason using earphones didn't effect it. Once again the sun was beaming and I got up early to make some progress on the presentation. But I got so bored by 12.30 and didn't want to spend another nice day indoors so I took my ball up the park with my iPod. Only 10 minutes later though: BOOM! Ball over fence, into stingy nettles, which stung me on the calf. Fun. Got bored of that and ended up going for a walk/run/jog, something I don't normally do, ever. I just kept on going and going and without realising I was by the train station I use to go to uni, which is around 15-20 minutes driving, or an hour away walking. So that meant an hour's walk/jog/run back too in the warm sun.
Some 3 days later my leg and back muscles are still messed up, got a bruise from the stingy nettles and a blister on my right foot. Happy days.
Getting home at around 3ish, I just couldn't get in the frame of mind to carry on working on the presentation. Eventually I did, but I still hadn't finished by 3am, where I decided to get some sleep and wake up early to finish. Fantastic plan. I woke up early, but still couldn't get into it, until I was rushing. I ended up finishing late, and still had to get ready. I left late and arrived at uni at about 11.40. I think they bought that I "had trouble starting my car" ¬¬.
The presentation itself was pretty poor. Videos I had recorded just didn't work. Fucking codecs. So I had to wing them. I think I may've answered their questions pretty decently though. But yes kids, don't be late. either way, I consoled myself with a(nother) McDonalds afterwards.
Was the day over? Noooo. Time to crack on with boring reports about Microkernels where information is a little scarce, even when using Wikipedia (which I was aiming not to). I already had 1500 words of the 2500 so wouldn't be too bad. I managed to get to about 2250 on Thursday night and decided to call it quits, wake up early and just finish it off to get it out of the way. I even watched Kick-Ass again on Thursday night afterwards, but fell asleep during it, so I carried on watching that again in the morning too. Did that and finished both around 12.30pm on Friday, score. So, that's my (hopefully) last ever piece of coursework handed in. In the end with only a couple hundred words left I just meh'd over it just to get it done.
To "celebrate" the end of uni, or just get out the house, I dunno, we took a trip to Barfly to watch a nice n' friendly band: a Pantera tribute band named, ironically, "101% Pantera". They were loud, they were angry, they were good. They even made me like "Walk", a song I dislike. Even as a fan of metal, wearing a Metallica shirt, we still looked out of place next to the big, hairy sweaty blokes, god knows what our female friend felt like. Glad to report we stayed away from the front and the mosh-pits. Then took a trip to Revs, which in all honesty is better than I thought it would be. Less full of chavs and the ability to breath and move unlike the similar Live Lounge. Ugh, I hate Live Lounge.
Now it's May, and only have 2 weeks and 3 exams left, and 4 weeks until my birthday. Yay.

The Return from Easter, pt 1.
Following the three weeks off from Easter, it meant the deadline for handing in the finished version of the final year project. Whoop-dee-do. Back in September when we started this shit, I was pretty sure I'd be pulling an all nighter, which would be my official first all nighter. Every other time for other assignments I'd be able to finish and get at least some sleep, albeit it going to bed at 5am with a wake-up of 7am. I guess I only have myself to blame though.
With only 2 days remaining before the project needed to be handed in, I was still stalled. Only the day before I could make a little progress, which forced the all nighter. Then, only some 3 hours before deadline I was able to come up with a solution for the code, which meant trying to hammer out a sufficient testing and evaluation sections, tidy up the what would be 86 page report and get it printed and bound (twice) before 4pm, with zero hours of sleep. I got it done in the end, even if I am fully aware of the piss-poor nature of my testing and evaluation sections. Oh and I realised a few days later that I left some crap in that I was going to change. Fuck. It's done now though.
I will say that that all-nighter was quite eventful though. I found myself eating cornflakes straight from the box, having a nosebleed (or aneurysm, one or the other), wasting time on Akinator and talking to people who I didn't expect to be up at 5am, as well as talking to those that I did expect to be up. I can say that I'm thankful for the company, and I'm sure it's the same for them too. Had to celebrate with a McDonalds at 4.30pm after not eating since my cornflakes-athon at about 3am. Waking up at 9.30am Tuesday and going to bed at 1am on Thursday isn't that fun, kids.
With that project out the way... that meant I had 48 hours to start and hand in an assignment! This one though was pathetic. The program doesn't need to be explained and requires about 4 lines for the minimum marks, and that was what we were aiming for just to get it done, given that the assignment was for the worst lecturer there. He doesn't explain shit. And his assignment sheet wasn't much help, it was about 3 lines long. May as well have said "pfft, do some shit." And he probably got shit. Glad I (hopefully) don't ever have to use Linux again! I was more concerned trying to play PlayStation One classics on my PC using the PS3 controller than that coursework.
Now to try and get a presentation done for the project for Thursday next week, and hand in another report on the Friday. Will I rest then? No. Exams. Fun. Thank god we got to celebrate the conclusion of the project report though.

The Remainder of Easter
Continuing on from where the last post left off, this is the tale of the last two weeks of Easter.
The second week of Easter was, in all honesty, good. The sun came out, it was warm and fun times at birthday parties were had. Balloons, 15 minute repetitive drum n' bass songs (MACHETE), pathetic dancing, the birthday girl being slightly drunk and two random drunkards going down a closed Helter Skelter at 4am makes a good night.
Only negative things about that week being lack of sleep and the arrival of hayfever. But meh. Walking around town with no jacket, no bag, listening to my iPod feels suave.
The final week of Easter break saw the continuation of hayfever, but then the realisation that the final year project needed to be done and dusted by Wednesday the 21st. That meant the onslaught of report writing, then reaching a brick wall. It's hard to continue the report when you're at the testing stage of the report, but your code isn't doing what it's supposed to do. It's a catch 22. Those were some long, boring, tedious days. I got so frustrated and angry with it at one point I just had to get out of the house, making my way to fucking Tesco of all places at about 8.30 in the night.
Though just having sun around made things a little better. Although it was a mockery given the situation of impending deadlines. And hayfever.

March Madness or some other less lame title.
Oops, forgot to update for March. Which is something that Sony forgot to do with the Playstation, as on the 1st of March, almost every PS3 in the world broke because they thought it was a leap year. In 2010. Fail. At least I can say that "I survived the ApocalyPS3".
Wellity, wellity, wellity, what a fun March it was. The entire month was filled with just waiting out the storm hoping Easter would come, whilst finishing (or starting) tedious and hard courseworks close to the deadline.
Monday the 8th saw the class give presentations on our chosen (I say chosen, I mean randomly selected) topic regarding AI. Yay for the genericness of "Co-operative Game AI". Got it done in the end though. Wasn't too bad.
The following week saw the hand in of the second Object Orientated Systems coursework. For those not in the know, its about... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Yeah. Don't bother. We were lucky too because only a few days before this coursework needed to be in, our final graphics coursework needed to be in. The first was hell as it was, but this one was set to be even bigger. However, we had a week's extension meaning it had to be handed in the last Tuesday of term. Thank god. In the end, I hope it went well. Some of the techniques we needed to implement were fine, but others were just being a stubborn bitch.
Then came Easter holidays. Thank god. I wish I could say I got to sleep, but I didn't really.
And it's all Wrestlemania 26's fault, being on the first Sunday off, fucking up my sleeping pattern. It meant staying up until 4am, albeit it watching Shawn Michaels' retirement and final match (for now, at least) against the legendary Undertaker, the match itself being a rematch from last year's epic Wrestlemania bout. Whilst good, WM25 match was better that what WM26 had to offer, but as a whole Wrestlemania 26 was better. Bret Hart's "match" was awful though.
And after the last about 3 or 4 years worth of holidays where I've been intending to clean-out/rearrange my room, I finally did it on the first Monday. Oh, and I saw Kick-Ass in the cinema, it being the first film I've seen in the cinema since Jarhead in early 2006. Fantastic film.

February's Nothingness.
Nothing happened really. At all. I just don't really care any more, I'm just on auto-pilot until Easter/summer.
I suppose I could somehow eke a few more lines of content out of the 28 days of the second month.
Monday, 1st of February meant I had to had in Milestone 2 of my project. I did. Haven't touched it since. Oops. Valentine's Day is crap and a marketing ploy. Plus I'm alone. ¬¬ So I spent it listening to metal, though I'm not fussed anyway. Even worse though was that we didn't and still haven't had pancakes forShrove Tuesday Pancake Day on the 16th! Grrr.
I did attend a birthday outing for McHodge though. That was pretty fun. And I got to drive. Snow also returned briefly. That was not fun. Fuck off snow.
That's about it I think. Yeah, wow.
I am now enjoying the emergence of some sun and driving to uni (or at least the train station to go to uni) regularily. It really does feel great driving along with the window down (despite not really needing to) blasting some Soundgarden, Metallica, SOiL or Between the Buried and Me (Selkies FTW) to really disturb pedestrians by you.
March is going to be hell though. 3 courseworks (2 to start... I think) to be in in 2 weeks, within days of each other too, milestone 3 to start to hand in the first week back off Easter as well as 2 other courseworks in after Easter too. So Easter's gonna be hell too... but I'm oddly really looking forward to it. Birthday parties, driving, hopefully sun. could be great, if not greatest.
Barring the hideous amounts of shit I have to do too. ¬¬
Yeah, that's it.

A rather sucktastic January. For the most part.
Where December left off being a bit shit, January continued the trend. Snow. Ugh. Fucking snow. It came, we enjoyed a couple of days, then it pissed off. Then came back again. Ugh. Everyone was bored of it, but still it stuck around. In fact, it caused myself and Jimmy to get stranded in Wherethefuckareweville (aka uni).
Speaking of which, returning to uni sucked too, as the "oh shit, why didn't I do ANYTHING over Xmas break" feeling kicked in hardcore style. For the second week back I had to start and finish two tedious courseworks, AND start milestone 2 of my final year project to be in some 2 weeks after that. And then factor in that the first week was practically a write-off concerning contact time due to snow, as was half of the second week.
Naturally, the day I had to give in one of these courseworks I had another attempt at my driving test in the morning... which I failed, again, this time with only 2 minors. As if the day couldn't be any worse, I would end up fucking up that coursework, then the aforementioned snow-relating stranding occurred. Awful, awful day I couldn't wait to be over with.
The following week I was left to my own devices, with my parents away on holiday for the week. Cue relative boredom, and bacon, chip shop and McDonalds. Lots of bacon, chip shop and McDonalds. Oh, and my mate telling me that I couldn't come to TNA on the 27th, meaning I'd effectively be going on my lonesome (bar the my friend's work mate who was joining us). Something that I'd been looking forward to for 6 months, and after these 2 months, something I needed.
As for the project milestone 2, it ended up not too bad, it's just a shame I left it that late and didn't get what I was doing until some 5 days before the deadline.
So that's a pretty shitty January for you.
BUT. There were a few shining lights:
On the 14th, in the midst of shitty snow/tedious coursework week, I got myself a new iPod Nano. It really is quite wonderful. Yes, I realise how vain/nerdy it sounds, but hell it was a peak in a crap couple of months. Also, I'd never owned an iPod before. Ironically, my SanDisk Sansa DIED as soon as I got home.
The next day, Friday the 15th, with my parents going away that day, my friends came over and we played Smackdown. A lot. And guitar. And Modern Warfare 2. And I got Facebook raped.
I also experienced Metros for the first time. That was fun, baring a VERY drunk and annoying Jim, and a 9am lecture the next morning. And despite having to go alone to watch TNA, that was fantastic also.
Oh yeah, another small thing, I FINALLY PASSED my driving test! I was able to take the spot of a girl who wasn't quite ready (no, don't go there ¬¬), and somehow I managed to pass. Albeit with ELEVEN minors of a maximum of sixteen. Ha. But fuck it, I'll take it. It was worth skipping that lecture to take it, it seems.
So, after a mixed at best January, here comes February. Mmmm.
